55 - A Million Tiny Windows

55 - A Million Tiny Windows

55 - A Million Tiny Windows

My son will not be here for this Thanksgiving

Nor will he be with me on Christmas Eve

Christmas day he’ll be miles away

 Guess I need to concede

All those years the two of us against the world

Somehow I didn’t quite believe

That life would change

And would feel so strange to me

Snow falls all around

The ground is white again

And just for a moment

All is right again

Until the light gives way to night again

I’m alone and on my own again

My mother, she has lived to see such losses

So many of her friends have passed away

She won’t let it show, she won’t let you know

How her heart still breaks today

Every person I pass on the street today

Has a story laden as my own

I pass by and see in their eye

Hearts longing to go home

Snow falls all around

The ground is white again

And just for a moment

All is right again

Until the light gives way to night again

I’m alone and on my own again

A million tiny windows in the city

A human there behind each single frame

So many souls all growing old

Wonder if somehow we feel the same

Snow falls all around

The ground is white again

And just for a moment

All is right again

Until the light gives way to night again

We're alone and on our own again

We share the loss

Of things we once knew

But the white of the snow

Brings hope to me - and you

56 - Clinging to the Rock

55 - A Million Tiny Windows

55 - A Million Tiny Windows

Clinging to the rock while I feel the sea

Pulling it all away from me

Just a minute before

I was standing on the shore

Looking at a new horizon

I’m still holding out hope

 That the sun will shine

Bring a little light to this dream of mine

I can make it through the dark

If I know that the sun will keep rising

I’d thought we were on our way

Things were looking good

Equality, enlightenment

I thought we all understood

The value of humanity

And our precious mother earth

We were on the path it seemed

A new road to rebirth (Now I’m)

Clinging to the rock while I feel the sea

Pulling it all away from me

Just a minute before

I was standing on the shore

Looking at a new horizon

I’m still holding out hope

that the sun will shine

Bring a little light to this dream of mine

I can make it through the dark

If I know that the sun will keep rising

How will change get underway

If they don’t believe their eyes?

Choosing only what they want to see

 And choosing only lies

All this needless provocation

For so many this is hell

I’m afraid we’ve gone too far this time, but only Time will tell (and I’m)

Clinging to the rock while I feel the sea

Pulling it all away from me

Just a minute before

I was standing on the shore

Looking at a new horizon

I’m still holding out hope

That the sun will shine

Bring a little light to this dream of mine

I can make it through the dark

If I know that the sun will keep rising

How is it that hate still grows

Are we not beyond that now?

We teach our children how to care and love

And yet still somehow, we’re

We're clinging to the rock

While we feel the sea

Taking away what’s right and free

Just a minute before

We were standing on the shore

Looking at a new horizon

We’re still holding out hope

Standing in the rain

Waiting to see the light again

We can make it through the dark

If we know that the sun will keep rising

Clinging to the rock while I feel the sea

Pulling it all away from me

Just a minute before

I was standing on the shore

 Looking at a new horizon

I’m still holding out hope

That the sun will shine

Bring a little light to this dream of mine

I can make it through the dark

If I know that the sun will keep rising
